Fuel, electricity, and natural gas price API

The Global Petrol Prices API provides data on retail fuel prices in 135 countries, electricity prices in 145 countries, and natural gas prices in 48 countries. Both future updates and historical series are available. The values can be downloaded via a simple XML feed or as Excel files.

For over a decade, our in-house team has collected the data manually - without automation - using our proprietary methods. Our client base includes hundreds of multinational corporations, investment firms, transport and logistics companies, consulting firms, international organizations, and individual researchers. The system includes the following APIs that can be accessed using the same login credentials:

Fuel price API

  • National fuel prices: National average gasoline, diesel, LPG, heating oil, methane, and ethanol prices.
  • Regional fuel prices: State-level gasoline and diesel prices for Australia, Canada, and the U.S. and city prices for 250 cities globally.
  • Country coverage: 135 countries for gasoline and diesel prices, with detailed coverage listed here.
  • Data available since: 2005 for advanced economies and 2014 for all countries.
  • Data frequency: Weekly series; monthly, quarterly, and annual averages also available.
  • Measure: National average retail (pump) prices in local currency per liter of fuel, inclusive of all taxes and fees.
  • Currencies: Raw data in local currency; corresponding USD and Euro exchange rates also provided.
  • Crude oil prices: Corresponding Brent, WTI, and OPEC basket prices also provided.
  • World averages: Gasoline and diesel price world averages using national petroleum consumption as weights also provided.

Diesel price forecast API

  • Forecast: Six months of historical data and forecast values for the next 24 months.
  • Scenarios: Medium (most likely), high, and low-price scenarios.
  • Country coverage: 80 countries listed here.
  • Frequency: Monthly updates using the latest oil price projections and price data.

Electricity price API

  • Residential electricity rates: Seven data points calculated at the average annual household electricity consumption and at 25%, 50%, 75%, 150%, 200% and 300% of the average consumption.
  • Business electricity rates: Four data points at 30,000 kWh, 150,000 kWh, 1,000,000 kWh, and 7,500,000 kWh annual electricity consumption.
  • Country coverage: 145 countries listed here.
  • Data available since: 2019.
  • Data frequency: quarterly.
  • Measure: Local currency units per kWh, inclusive of transmission and distribution costs and all applicable taxes and fees.
  • Currencies: Raw data in local currency; corresponding USD and Euro exchange rates also provided.

Natural gas price API

  • Residential natural gas rates: three data points per country at 5,500 kWh, 30,000 kWh, and 100,000 kWh annual natural gas consumption.
  • Business natural gas rates: four data points at 100,000 kWh, 1,000,000 kWh, 10,000,000 kWh, and 100,000,000 kWh annual natural gas consumption.
  • Country coverage: 48 countries listed here.
  • Data coverage since: 2020.
  • Data frequency: quarterly.
  • Measure: local currency units per kWh, inclusive of transmission and distribution costs and all applicable taxes and fees.
  • Currencies: Raw data in local currency; corresponding USD and Euro exchange rates also provided.

Subscription cost

The cost depends on whether you need access to fuel, electricity, and/or natural gas prices; the number of countries; and whether you need data updates and/or historical data. The cost of forecasts depends on the number of countries. Please contact us for details and a quote.
